Opened in July 2025 in the Lower East Side, New York, Smiley Coffee store was designed and built by Studio Environmental. The space houses two brands — Smiley Coffee, a specialty café that draws inspiration from the architecture of 19th-century Parisian newspaper kiosks, and Smiley 1972, a fashion label that reinterprets heritage sportswear for a modern audience. Both reside under the same roof, not just physically but philosophically, united by a shared narrative of storytelling, memory, and quiet elegance. The space feels at once lived-in and carefully composed, with rich wood detailing in red sapele, vintage brass fixtures, and bench seating designed to foster both solitude and community. The design is steeped in nostalgia, not as a theme, but as a sensory memory — every texture, tone, and temperature intentionally chosen to evoke a feeling rather than dictate a style.
